I met Kevin, Heather, and their two adorable children, Parker & Jack, early in the morning on a sunshiny Saturday at the end of February, My husband and I love visiting St. Augustine which is also known as the "Ancient City." It is a short thirty minute drive from our home traveling down the scenic coastal highway named A1A. It is our nation's oldest city and was founded in 1565 by Spanish Explorer, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. I have longed to do a photo session in this pretty "European-esque" city, so I can't describe my excitement to you when Heather suggested it as their desired location. Upon arrival, we headed over to one of my favorite side streets called Palm Row. Palm Row is a brick street which is lined with homes. The street was actually laid in the early 1900's at the end of the Victorian era. Little Jack was fast asleep in his stroller, so I began the session photographing his big sister, Parker, with her Mom & Dad. Heather chose a beautiful teal dress that complemented the old Victorian homes on Palm Row perfectly, while little Parker picked out her very own outfit, a buttercup yellow dress. Kevin kept it neutral with a white button-up shirt and blue pants.
After finishing up on Palm Row, we headed over to Avilés Street, the nation's oldest street! Since it was about 9:00 a.m., there were very few pedestrians that we had to work around. The sunshine, bright & cheery, illuminated the background of our photographs. I loved watching Heather and Parker interact as I photographed them. You can tell that she looks up to her beautiful Mommy and wants to be just like her. Kevin loved the charm of this street and wanted its character reflected in the photographs. He really liked the different restaurant and shoppe signs that hang above each storefront.
Next, we headed over to the Marina beside the Bridge of Lions. We were taking our chances because I knew at this point the morning "golden hour" was long gone and the sun would be pretty bright. We decided to see how it looked, so we crossed over the busy car-filled streets while Jack slept away in his stroller. Once we arrived, I took a few photographs and then we headed back towards Avilés Street. Ms. Parker did great walking around the uneven streets in her "heels."
As we headed back over to Palm Row to wrap up our session, I took a few photographs in this pretty alley near Avilés Street. I loved the pink hues of the building that lined the alleyway.
As we explored St. Augustine, we came across what I believe to be a cherry blossom tree? It was in bloom, so we had to stop and take some photographs near it!
Once again, we reached Palm Row and Jack was awake, rested, and ready to join in the fun. He has the most gorgeous blue eyes and toothy grin. I loved the little outfit that Heather found for him on Etsy. He was full of precious baby smiles and I love that I could capture the whole family together.
In closing, the last time I photographed the Reiter Family, Parker was only a little older than Jack is now. It is amazing to capture the milestones and growth of this sweet family. I am honored every time I am chosen to be a family's photographer! I feel like the most blessed person in the world to capture these joyous moments in a beautiful & historic city like St. Augustine.
